Does drinking water really quench your skin’s thirst?

This summer you might need more than your 8 glasses of ice water.

As we roll casually into the summer months, our hectic lives don’t seem pause and we end up forgetting to drink enough liquid to quench our bodies thirst. As we’re sweating out all of that aqua, does following up with a gallon of water a day actually result in your skin being beautiful, plump, and radiant?

Of course, keeping up with your moderation of water is VITAL and necessary by all means, it certainly will not immediately add a glowing, precipitated dewiness to your skin. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying ‘the first thing to go when your malnourished is the skin, nails, and  hair.’ This rings very true when taking into consideration the reversal process of re-hydrating the body. As far as the body is concerned, it must prioritize the internal organs, especially the brain and circulatory system, when feeling famished to preserve these vital processes until the body is systemically replenished with nourishment. More so, there is very, very inadequate evidence that hydration via drinking water will prevent fine lines, and wrinkles which generally are caused by genes, and UVA overexposure. Face it, the body is more preoccupied with keeping the visceral organs flowing, and lubricated properly.

Over the length of your life, consistent consumption of water will surely maintain your skin to some degree, but how can you quickly replenish your skin with hydration? You want the look of moisture residing on the skin, hiding away any uneven tone, and radiance, but your sipping won’t get you there quick enough.  240_F_106195696_iGxgJOzPH7iZCO7qbMtodYGKQuIG1EmZ

Laced in Liquid

Curating a plan for your skin will take a consultation to observe the quality of the skin in it’s current state. The tone, elasticity, texture, temperature, and color hold clues into the areas of your life that are causing these properties to be compromised. For the ultimate liquid boost, I recommend scheduling an appointment with your esthetician to send your skin into balance so the home care will maintain the best results. But as for a few things you can do at home to give your skin a quick drench of sweet hydration, check out these tips:

  1.  Try Glo Therapeutics Advanced B5 Hydration Moisturizer in your daily skincare regime to protect the skin from environmental aggressors, sustain resistance to UV radiation, and to instantly fulfill your skin with moisture as the hyaluronic acid will grasp 1,000 times it’s weight in water to result in a dewy, fresh face. The high content of humectants inside this bottle will safeguard the skin from trans-epidermal water loss. Panthenol (D-) will help to increase the skin’s natural production of hyaluronic acid so it can perform beautifully even on days you rush out the door forgetting to use this product. Apply after using a Vitamin C serum, and before the Glo Therapeutics moisturizer for best results, or simply use alone as a hydrator.
  2. On top of the B5 Hydration, your going to apply a thin layer of a moisturizer that will continue to seal in all of the newly added supple hydration. This Moisture Rich Cream by Glo Therapeutics will do the trick. Lecithin is an active ingredient inside of the cream which will act as a natural vitamin B abundant antioxidant and emollient attracting tons of water molecules into and on top of the skin. Another ingredient inside of this cream that will help to add a barrier of hydration is Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil. Containing tons of yummy vitamins to nourish the skin, and Linolenic which is an essential fatty acid that helps to multiply the permeability, and elasticity of cell membranes as well as decreasing trans-epidermal water loss.
  3. Turn down the heat in the shower! Hot water has been demonstrated to strip the skin of it’s natural oils quicker than warm water. Also, try to limit the time you spend in the bath or shower (… or pool) to 5-10 minutes so it doesn’t have the opportunity to dry the skin. In the bath or pool the best way to swim stress free is to first apply a cream with ceramides that will lock in existing moisture while swimming.
  4. Cream VS. Lotion. Creams generally less alcohol content than lotions therefore drying your skin of all the moisture you are trying to contain. Also, look for a cream with protective ceramides to create a wall that protects the skin from loosing it’s moisture. By applying creams and moisturizers while skin in slightly damp after showering, the skin is able to absorb it even better.

Love the skin that wraps your beautiful body this summer, and schedule a hydration facial with your esthetician to send the process forward with a quick start. Remember, while drinking water may not immediately give your skin the beauty of suppleness, not drinking it will certainly do the worst damage. Splash all of these techniques into your daily skincare regime, and enjoy.
